NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management


The NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management provides a good overview of environmental management systems, including the relevant international standards and best practices for control of environmental hazards. It is suitable for:

• Managers, supervisors and employees who have a responsibility for managing environmental issues.

• Those looking to start a career in environmental management

The course consists of 2 units:

  • Unit EC1 Management and control of environmental hazards
  • Unit EC2 Environmental practical application

The qualification focuses on international environmental management systems, such as ISO 14001, pollution control energy and waste management.


The syllabus covers the practical issues of managing environmental risk, taking a risk management approach based on best practices and international standards, including:

Unit EC2: Environmental practical application

Unit EC2 is assessed by a practical examination carried out in the candidate’s own place of work no later than 10 working days of the written examination. The practical examination is internally assessed by Astutis and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
